Dear Advocate for the Environment, Join us this Saturday, 12/2 at 12:00 PM for a protest rally against the clear-cutting of Pine Barrens forest for solar farms. The rally will take place near the site of one of the proposed solar factories. The New York State Legislature has approved a bill to preserve more than 1000 acres of woodlands in Shoreham and Mastic. The bill is currently waiting for the Governor's approval and signature. We all need to come together and demonstrate that Long Islanders care about protecting open space! Most Long Islanders agree that destroying forests for solar is like saying we have to destroy the environment to save it. Solar belongs on roofs, in parking lots and on previously-cleared land. Brookhaven Town is working on a plan to move the solar project to previously cleared land that wouldn't require clear-cutting. Clean energy need not be advanced at the cost of open space and clean water. That's why we're asking you to show your support this Saturday at 12:00 pm at the 598 Weeks Ave., Manorville ( View on Google Maps). It will be a short rally and won't take up much of your time – please join us. Sincerely, Richard Amper Executive Director Long Island Pine Barrens Society |
